Wanna know the secret to a great Mother’s Day?
Expect nothing. I’m serious! It’s not being pessimistic – it’s giving our families the freedom to love and appreciate us in their own way without us placing expectations or demands on them.
When we expect nothing, every tiny gesture feels special! And, if it’s just a normal (or even sort-of bad) day? It’s okay because we weren’t expecting anything anyways! Try it, just this once. Expect absolutely nothing, and see if your Mother’s Day doesn’t feel more special than normal.
Another way to have a great Mother’s Day is to do something special for a mom you know probably won’t be celebrated otherwise. I’m not talking about shooting her a quick text or shout-out on Social Media – I mean actually do something. Give her a card, buy her flowers, make her brownies, gift her a little goodie bag with lotion and sugar scrub, or pick up a $5.00 gift card to your local coffee shop. It doesn’t have to be extravagant – just make her feel seen and valued.
If she’s long distance, hop on Amazon and email an Amazon gift card with a nice note to her inbox. That counts too if you really can’t do anything in person!
If you’re feeling invisible and left out this Mother’s Day, remember that your works are valuable and the One who created the universe sees and adores you.
